COACHES – ISLAND VIEW SCHOOL

The following should provide all coaches with the information required to ensure the safe, secure and future use of the Island View School Gymnasium by the Lancaster Minor Basketball Association.

1.       Brian French (672-0123) is the Facilities Coordinator responsible for Island view.

2.       As the school custodian remains in the building until after 6:00pm on Mondays thru Thursdays, coaches will be allowed access to the building by the custodians. The only entrance/exit we are allowed to use is at the front of the building.   For weekend games the school will be opened and closed by an LMBA Board member.

3.       Two parent supervisors must be assigned for game days (one from each team). One for each half of the basketball game. On practice nights, one supervisor should be sufficient, however all areas will have to be monitored carefully.

4.       All necessary equipment is contained in a LMBA ball box, located outside the gymnasium. The combination to this lock is   . All coaches should have this with them in case it becomes locked by mistake during your practice. The ball box should also contain a first aid kit, pinnies and other equipment.

5.       LMBA is permitted the use of the gymnasium, lower level changing rooms, washrooms, the stage for viewing and the area immediately outside the gym door. All other areas are OFF LIMITS to players, coaches and spectators.

6.       Upon arriving for your practice, the first team coach should do a quick check of the area, (gym floor, washrooms, etc.) to ensure that everything is in order.

7.       The last team should ensure that all equipment is returned to the ball box. Any chairs, benches, desks, etc. that have been used either on the gym floor or on the stage, should be returned to where they were found. Any garbage remaining on the stage should be put away, and any mess cleaned up. Washrooms should be checked-toilets flushed and washrooms neat and tidy. Gym lights should be turned off and all areas checked before leaving.

8.       All exit doors must be checked to ensure they are firmly latched - please do this physically and not just visually.

9.       Coaches are not to leave until all their players have been picked up at the school.

10.   Spectators or their children must not be allowed to wander or run in the halls - it is the responsibility of the supervisor to ensure that only designated areas are utilized by the LMBA.

11.   Street shoes are not permitted on the gym floor. This applies to coaches, volunteers and spectators as well as to players. Also, sneakers leaving black marks on the floor are also not permitted.  This also includes the sneakers that have the roller skates in them.

12.    No food or drink of any kind is allowed in the gym.

13.   Smoking is not permitted by ANYONE (parents or coaches). This is for the entire school property including the grounds. This rule will be strictly enforced and if we are caught our contract with the schools will be terminated.
