REP TEAM POLICY
Article 1 – Representative (Rep) Team Committee
a) The Rep Team Committee shall be a standing committee of the L.M.B.A.
b) The Rep Team Committee shall consist of:
- Chair – an L.M.B.A. Executive Committee member or designated
appointee
- L.M.B.A. Equipment Manager
- Two Members at large
- L.M.B.A. President, or designate
c) The Rep Team Committee shall exercise complete authority on behalf of the
Executive Committee of the L.M.B.A. with regard to matters involving the
operation and administration of Rep Team Programs.
d) The Rep Team Committee shall have the responsibility to inform the
L.M.B.A. membership of the Rep Team procedures and regulations.
e) A Coach, Assistant Coach or Manager of a Rep Team are not eligible to
serve as Chairperson of the Rep Team Committee.
f) A member of the Rep Team Committee or their delegate will be present at
try-outs and selection meetings of the teams. Irregularities will be brought
forward to the Rep Team Committee.
At the request of a Rep Team coach, the Rep Team Committee will assist in the selection of the Team. They will do this by assembling and approving a group of up to 3 LMBA representatives that will participate, in conjunction with the coach, in the selection of the team.
g) The Rep Team Committee will provide a recommended format for try-outs.
Article 2 – Purpose, Definitions and Endorsement
a) Purpose – the purpose of the L.M.B.A. Rep Team Program is to provide within each L.M.B.A. age division, except Puppy and Junior Mini (ages 7 – 9 years) an enhanced player development opportunity for the selected Rep players, while maintaining the integrity of the L.M.B.A.
House League Program.
At a minimum, the LMBA will have one Rep team (the A Team), for both girls and boys, at the Mini and Bantam levels. The assembling of additional Rep Teams (B Team and below) in those divisions , or teams at the midget level, will be determined by the Rep Team and Executive Committees with the following factors to be taken into consideration:
· Number of players trying out for the teams
· Availability of certified coaches
· Availability of gym time
It is the policy of the L.M.B.A. that the Rep A Teams, both girls and boys, in the Mini and Bantam divisions are exempt from House League commitments, and will practice and play only with the Rep Team. However, the Rep Team Committee and Executive Committee may, in the interests of the Association, require that, for one or more seasons, these teams maintain house league commitments.
Additional Rep Teams, B teams and below, in the Mini and Bantam divisions, and the Rep Teams at the midget level are required to maintain their house league practice and game commitments.
The B teams at the Mini and Bantam levels are to be considered developmental teams.
b) Representative (Rep) Teams – those teams selected and sanctioned by the
L.M.B.A. to represent the Association at BNB Provincial Age Class
Tournaments.
c) Rep Team Committee – the committee designated by the L.M.B.A.
Executive Committee to oversee the formation and operation of the Rep
Teams.
d) Endorsement:
1) The L.M.B.A. endorses the concept of Rep team competition,
in light of policies and guidelines herein established.
2) The L.M.B.A. supports the concept of Rep teams and BNB
Provincial Tournaments, supporting these activities relating to
Rep Teams.
3) The L.M.B.A. endorses the concept of its hosting BNB Provincial
Championship Tournaments.
Article 3 – Selection of Rep Team Coaches
a) The Rep Team Committee shall ensure that all L.M.B.A. House League coaches
and assistant coaches are notified of the process for Rep Team Coach selection,
application deadline and Rep Team regulations, at least two weeks prior to the
coaching application deadline. (May 1st )
b) Anyone may apply, on the appropriate form, to the Rep Team Committee to coach
an L.M.B.A. Rep Team.
c) The Rep Team Committee may also actively seek out candidates for the Rep
Teams. Said candidates must also complete the appropriate coaching application
form.
d) The Rep Team Committee shall consider coaches from the written applications
submitted by the application deadline. If no suitable applications are received by
the application deadline, the Rep Team Committee shall canvas for a suitable
coach(s).
e) The selected coaches may recruit assistant coaches and are to identify them to the
Rep Team Committee for approval.
f) If, for any reason, a coach(s) is unable to complete the season, he/she must resign
in writing to the Rep Team Committee. The Rep Team Committee shall appoint a
coach to finish the season.
Article 4 – Coaches Responsibilities
a) The Rep Team Coach is responsible to the Rep Team Committee for the selection
of the Rep Team Players, for the practices and preparation of the team for
competitive play, and the general supervision of the players and assistants in
keeping with L.M.B.A. policies and philosophy.
At the request of a Rep Team coach, the Rep Team Committee will assist in the selection of the Team. They will do this by assembling and approving a group of up to 3 LMBA representatives that will participate, in conjunction with the coach, in the selection of the team.
b) Rep Team Players (maximum of 12) must be chosen from those who attend
tryouts. Any player(s) unable to attend all of the tryouts must inform the Rep Team
Coach beforehand and have a justifiable reason for not attending. The Rep Team
Coach is to inform the Rep Team Committee of such cases. A minimum of 2 tryouts are to be scheduled. Try-out times and locations are to be determined prior to registration and notification provided to registering participants. A Team tryouts should occur after registration and before the selection of house league teams. For B teams, should try-out times not be known at registration, notification must be made at divisional games for two separate Saturdays.
c) Rep Team Coaches must determine if their selected team is able to attend the BNB
Age Class Provincial Championship Tournament. If it is determined that the team cannot attend it is the responsibility of the coach to find a suitable replacement season-ending tournament. If required, the coach can ask for help from the Rep Team Committee in the determination of such a tournament.
d) Practices and exhibition games held on school nights are to be completed by
9:00 p.m.
e) Beratement of L.M.B.A. players at practices and games will not be tolerated.
Beratement includes verbal and non-verbal gestures/actions directed to the players.
Rep Teams represent the L.M.B.A. and must, at all times, exemplify behaviour
acceptable to the L.M.B.A. The above also applies to treatment of opponent’s
players and all officials during games.
Article 4 – Coaches Responsibilities (Cont’d)
f) Rep Team Coaches must keep in mind that they can be removed from their
positions for exhibiting inappropriate behaviour at practices and games, and for
disregarding Rep Team policies.
g) For Rep Teams required to maintain their House League commitments (e.g. B Teams), House League activities supercede Rep Team activities. In this case, no Rep Team activities may be scheduled so as to draw the players or coaches away from their House obligations. The one exception to this is that each Rep Team may miss a total of 3 Saturday game days, provided that arrangements have been made with the division Coordinator. Players may not miss playoffs. The Rep Team Coach must consult with the Division Coordinator and the Rep Team Committee Chair at least two weeks prior to the Saturday in question to determine whether or not the division’s game day schedule can be adjusted.
h) For Rep Teams required to maintain their House League commitments (e.g. B Teams), Rep Team players who do not fulfill their House League commitments (defined as 70 % of house league games and practices excluding playoffs and Christmas Tourn. ) will be removed from the Rep Team Program. If time permits, the Rep Team Coach may schedule a tryout to replace that player and select another player from those attending the tryout. The replacement player(s) are to be made known to the Rep Team Committee.
i) Except the BNB Age Class Provincial Championship Tournament, no Rep Team
activities may be scheduled that necessitates the players being absent from school.
j) Player fees, as set by the Rep Team Committee, are to be collected by the Rep
Team Coach. A record of the team’s income and expenses should be maintained and made available, upon request, to the Board at the end of the season.
k) The Rep Team Coach is to inform the players and their parents of the BNB
Provincial Championship Tournament site and the Tournament Schedule, or of the selected suitable replacement tournament.
l) The Rep Team Coach is to provide those attending the tryouts, and their parents, a letter, as provided by the Rep Team Committee, outlining Rep Team guidelines (e.g. no fair play, proper behavior). This letter must be signed by each player, and at least of parent of each player, attending tryouts, and returned to the coach prior to the end of the final tryout.
m) It is the responsibility of the Rep Team coach to register their Team in the BNB Age Class Provincial Tournament prior to the BNB registration deadline, or in the suitable replacement season-ending tournament.
n) After the BNB Age Class Provincial Championship Tournament, RepTeams, at the discretion of each coach may continue to operate until the expiration of L.M.B.A.’s contract with the school board. The L.M.B.A. scheduler will have this information.
o) It is the responsibility of the Rep Team Coach to inform the Rep Team Committee
of any problem areas.
Article 5 – Rep Team Player Selection and Play
a) Each L.M.B.A. age division may have one Rep Team ( the A Team) with maximum of 12 players ( age classifications as per LMBA rules ), however subject to approval by the Rep Team Committee and the Executive Committee, additional Rep Teams ( a B Team) may be established. This second Rep Team will be chosen subsequent to the selection of the first Rep Team and will in no way interfere with the operation of the first team.
The decision to add these additional Rep Teams (B Team and below) will be based upon the following factors:
· Number of players trying out for the teams
· Availability of certified coaches
· Availability of gym time
b) Rep Team Players must be chosen from those who attend all the open tryouts.
Any potential player(s) who are unable to make all the tryouts must have a justifiable reason and inform the Rep Team Coach prior to the tryout(s). The Coach will inform the Rep Team Committee of such situations. Mini Rep Teams are to carry 12 players. Bantam and above Rep Teams can carry a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 players.
At their discretion, and if only one Rep team is maintained in their division, the Rep team coach may choose to maintain a maximum of 2 practice players. These practice players will be eligible to practice with the Rep Team, and may or may not, at the coach’s discretion participate in Rep Team exhibition games. Rep Team Practice Players must maintain house league commitments.
c) Players and parents, shall be informed by the Rep Team Coach during Rep Team tryouts, of the Rep Team Guidelines. Prior to the end of try-outs, each player and at least one parent of each player will be required to sign a letter outlining those guidelines.
d) If a coach is required to replace a player on a Rep Team, they must do so by holding at least one open tryout from which the required number of replacement players will be selected.
e) LMBA Rep Teams are to adhere to, and play under, the rules and guidelines established by BNB for their age class.
Article 6 – Rep Team Committee Responsibilities
a) The Rep Team Committee is in charge of the overall operation of the L.M.B.A.’s Rep Team Program.
It is the policy of the L.M.B.A. that the Rep A Teams, for both girls and boys, in the Mini and Bantam divisions are exempt from House League commitments, and will practice and play only with the Rep Team. However, the Rep Team and Executive Committee may, in the interests of the Association, require that, for one or more seasons, these teams maintain house league commitments.
The Rep Team Committee and the Executive Committee shall be responsible for determining if a second Rep Team, a B Team, may be established within a Division. This B Team will be designated as a development team, and will be chosen subsequent to the selection of the A Team and will in no way interfere with the operation of the A Team.
b) The Committee shall select the Rep Team Coaches as stated in Article 3.
c) The Rep Team Committee is responsible for setting the Rep Team fees and
informing the membership of the fees.
d) The Rep Team Committee shall be responsible for ensuring that each coach is aware of their responsibility to register their team for BNB’s Age Class Provincial Championship Tournament, or in a suitable replacement season-ending tournament if the team cannot attend provincials.
e) The Committee shall provide each Rep Team with a practice time, facility and all
necessary equipment for practices.
f) The Committee shall order the team uniforms, which shall consist of a top and
shorts. The L.M.B.A. logo should be displayed in a prominent manner.
g) If a Rep Team is required to maintain its house league commitments (e.g. a B Team), the Committee shall inform each division coordinator and coaches of the members of the division’s Rep Team that are required to maintain their house league commitments.
h) The Committee shall inform the membership at the May Annual General Meeting,
of the Rep Teams participation and achievements.
Article 7 – Scheduling
a) The Rep Team Coach may arrange his/her own practice time and facility, provided:
1. Practice times must not interfere with the players or coaches house
obligations.
2. The facility does not involve any expense to the L.M.B.A.
b) All LMBA Mini and Bantam A Teams are restricted to a maximum of 30 games per season, and shall practice as a team no more than 3 hours per week.
All LMBA Mini and Bantam B Teams will be limited to no more than 20 games per season, and shall practice as a team no more than 1.5 hours per week
These above limits do not include provincial tournament games and the play-off or championship games of any entered exhibition tournaments.
c) Any Rep Team Coach or anyone connected to the team in any capacity, wishing to
host any tournament must first have the approval from the L.M.B.A. and operate in
cooperation with the Rep Team Committee and the Tournament Hosting Committee
Article 8 – Sanctions
a) All L.M.B.A. registered players commit to play within the Association.
b) If a Rep Team is required by the Board to maintain its House League commitments, Rep Team players violating house league obligations will be removed from the Rep Team program and shall forfeit their Rep Team fees.
c) Rep Team players missing their Rep Team obligations without sufficient reason(s), will be removed from the Rep Team Program and shall forfeit their Rep Team fees.
d) Any Rep Team player exhibiting conduct unbecoming to the L.M.B.A. may be removed from the Rep Team Program by the Rep Team Committee.
e) Any Rep Team Coach(s) exhibiting conduct unbecoming to the L.M.B.A. may be removed from his/her position by the Rep Team Committee.
f) If a coach wishes to remove a player from the team, he must provide reason(s)
for such removal to the Rep Team Committee. If the Rep Team Committee
endorses the removal, they in turn will make such a recommendation to the
Executive Committee, who shall have the final say.
Article 9 – Fund Raising / Sponsorship
a) Coach(s) are not to approach potential sponsors without first receiving approval
from the Rep Team Committee.
